Rhythmic Integrity is the Foundation for Recording and Mixing Masterpiece Quality Recordings

One of the many critical techniques that TEAM Founder Gary Gray (a.k.a. "The Sculptor of Sound" :) ) emphasizes is the importance of rhythmic integrity.

In this Mastermind excerpt, Gary reminds us how rhythmic integrity - the timing of your performance when recording and mixing a live instrument or vocal - can have such a fundamental impact on the sound of a piece of music. There is almost a certain magic to how rhythmic integrity can help a song or composition sound more in tune, more emotional, and better balanced. "Different, multiple layers of problems go away" when you ensure rhythmic integrity. 

This idea applies to both essential rhythmic elements such as drums and bass, which generally need to be right "on the grid" (and if elements of a track need to be slightly ahead of or behind the beat, they need to be consistently ahead of behind the beat), and to solo elements which may be less aligned, for emotional impact, but still drive the overall rhythmic integrity of the piece.
